GENERAL INFORMATION:

FULL NAME: "Pye"

SPECIES: Supernatural- Doppelgänger, presently posing as a human.

GENDER: Genderfluid, switches pronouns depending on the form he's taking. Presently male.

DATE OF BIRTH: July 1st

AGE: ???? (spoilers: he's 25, but his physical age changes with every shift)

HEIGHT: Currently 5'8"

WEIGHT: Currently 149 lbs

OCCUPATION:  Cook at the Burnt Scribe Inn (or the Restaurant)

STATS:

NOTE: Pye's stats - specifically, his strength, dexterity, and presence- may see some flux depending on what form he happens to be taking. If he doesn't have thorough knowledge of the subject he mimics some things based on assumption - bulkier, muscular figures are stronger, sleeker ones are faster. However, if he gets flushed out into his gelatinous, more malleable form, however both of these stats drop severely but presence is boosted (because if you saw some writhing, subhuman grey abomination frantically trying to change into something else in the room, you'd probably notice). Other stats will remain constant regardless of form, however.

INTELLIGENCE: 5 / 20 {Okay}
When your education has largely consisted of the odd library book and whatever wisdom a number of criminals could impart to you, there are aspects of your knowledge that leave something to be desired.

WISDOM:  15 / 20 {Great}
... But when you've spent your life experiencing everything for yourself, that certainly doesn't mean you're stupid. Pye's perception is nearly unrivaled... even if he does choose to be impractical for his own amusement more often than not.

RESOLVE:  3 / 20 {Bad}
No, transforming yourself into a bush and waiting until your problems run their course doesn't "count" as a solution.

STRENGTH:  7 / 20 {Average(1 / 20 in true form)
It depends on form, but generally, this is about average. His present form didn't do much in the means of lifting cookware before he'd copied him, so building the muscle back to lift the bigger pots has been a little annoying.

DEXTERITY:  7 / 20 {Average} (1 / 20 in true form)
It depends on form, but while maintaining his present human form, this is about average.

MAGIC:  11 / 20 {Good}
While self-taught, Pye largely built his life around his ability to change form, which has at the very least made him reasonably good at what he does.

PRESENCE:  7 / 20 {Average( 20 / 20 in true form )
Once again, this changes to balance depending on form, although being in mid-shift tends to make him a bit more noticeable than usual. He doesn't tend to try and pass himself off as anyone of remote interest unless requested to do so otherwise, however.

CHARISMA:  8 / 20 {Average}
Look, if you're going to pretend to be something other the a jello demon, you at least have to seem a LITTLE convincing.

INFLUENCE:  1 / 20 {Awful}
When you spend most of your time as miscellaneous fauna and irrelevant bystanders, you don't generally have to worry about building up a resistance to others using magic on you.

PERSONAL INFORMATION:

STRENGTHS & SKILLS:

  • [ Fuller understanding ] If you spend a great deal of time watching something (or someone) in order to imitate it, you become a bit more sensitive to its aspects than someone who barely spares their surroundings a passing glance. Pye's eye for detail is phenomenal, allowing him to take note of even the tiniest of another's quirks.
  • [ In plain sight ] If Pye doesn't want to be found, chances are, he won't be. Well, unless you're willing to put the torch to every rock and leaf in the area.
  • [ Iron chef ] Astonishingly, Pye's actually a very good cook... although he occasionally takes 'creative liberties' with his food that more sensible minds might have seen as best avoided. If not left to himself and kept focused, however, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone half as flexible as he is in the kitchen.
  • [ To those who wait ] Patience a virtue for those who need to remain in one solid, immobile form for long periods, after all.

WEAKNESSES:

  • [ Behind the mask ] Although Pye is capable of imitating much more aesthetically pleasing forms... as himself, he's not the most pleasant creature to look at. Or, for that matter, particularly fast or strong. Forcing him back into his true physical form is just as good as a guaranteed win for whomever he might be facing.
  • [ No impulse control ] Look, sometimes you just have to see if putting a rock in your soup will actually make it more flavourful. You never know until you try, right?
  • [ Weak willed ] Pye's not really the best at dealing with difficult circumstances; nine times out of ten, he'll just propose that they be waited out until someone else finds a solution.
  • [ Lazybones ] Getting Pye to get off his ass and do anything about anything is a feat indeed. Even pain does little to motivate him.

POWERS/WEAPONS

[Ten Faced] [ Main Skill ]
As a fullblooded doppleganger, Pye has the miraculous ability to transform into any living thing he sees. As long as he has live subject to focus on for the full duration of the transformation - be it a plant, a beast or another supernatural being - and enough time to sort himself into its shape, Pye can copy it and remain transformed for an indefinite amount of time. However, to mimic another is a bit of a double edged sword in that it requires he forge a connection that does not solely imitate a physical body, but everything it experiences. Any damage they sustain, be it physical or mental, is halved between both of them, and while it may potentially ease the other party's burdens slightly, too much can push Pye to his limits and force him out of their form. Similarly, by focusing on their half of the established 'connection', the other (likely more influential) party can simply will him to stop stealing their look but by thinking that they don't want him to long enough.

Unfortunately, while handy, there are a number of other drawbacks to Pye’s abilities. The first, and perhaps the most obvious of these, is that rearranging one’s entire molecular structure can take a great deal of time - especially when requested to perform a major shift in height or weight. A complete shift from a humanoid figure to another similar humanoid figure in build would take three minutes at most with a good reference, but changing from a human to a tree would be at least two hours of concentrated effort… while exhausting most of his strength. Full, complete shifts are more for blending in with one’s environment rather than for use in combat, and finally finishing one will likely prompt him to become dormant for a while before doing anything else.

The second is that transforming into something else is kind of a nasty process to watch for anyone unaccustomed to body horror. After all, watching a dude slowly squelching and changing into a disgusting, goopy grey abomination which then turns into something else mundane can get a little… unsettling, to say the least. Pye knows this and, for all his confidence, is still little self-conscious about it. Chances are, if you catch him in the process of a full shift in front of you, it probably wasn’t intended. Granted, with consideration to the fact that one can oust the young doppleganger from his form just by thinking that they don't want him to look like them, it's likely one will catch him in such a state anyway.

On a final note, while he may be able to mimic another’s shape, voice, or other visual properties, that won’t actually mean he has access to what makes them that way. His memories are his own, as are his powers - copying someone will not teach him how to smile exactly like them, fight the way they do, or instantaneously be able to utilize whatever powers they might have. He can do some pretty convincing impressions, but unless he himself is intimately familiar with who he’s impersonating and not required to do something only they’re capable of, it can get reasonably easy to tell who the faker is.

[ Of one mind ] Secondary Skill ]
As a being originally intended to forge mental complete connections with others in order to learn to impersonate them fully, Pye is gifted with telepathy he doesn't entirely know how to use. However, as someone who fancies himself to have been raised with manners, he tends to believe that just reaching out into another's mind would be a little intrusive of him, and thus doesn't bother much with it anyway. His unwillingness to try and communicate through a direct mental link in favour of the usual subconscious one he uses for transformation, save for emergencies, is possibly for the best - being as weak to outside influences as he is, to do so willy-nilly would likely provide ample opportunity for a stronger mind to easily take control of him with no barriers whatsoever.

PERSONALITY:
A free-spirited and hedonistic creature by nature, Pye is inclined to act in ways that please him and him alone, leaving others bemused and inconvenienced in his wake. Not that he particularly go out of his way to cause problems, per se, although as he rarely pays attention to the consequences of his actions, he's often assumed to be doing just that. Not that this particularly phases him - as far as he's concerned, everyone's going to die someday anyway, so you might as well make life something you can enjoy while you can.

That isn't to say he's completely without redeemable traits. His self-centered behavior is largely limited to action alone, and if you can actually get him talking, he's a reasonably pleasant, intelligent conversational partner... even if his ideas are a bit unorthodox at times. The laid back sort, he's more than happy to go with the flow of things and isn't particularly bothered by a lack of tact or pleasantries from the other party. His patience is only truly limited by the presence of cold weather and open wounds.

HISTORY:
It's hard to say exactly where Pye came from. Some accounts say he'd always been there, posing as a rock within the Dodana forest in order to evade the notice up until Mindi froze a large portion of her territory and forced him out of dormancy; others suggest that he stole the face of one of the unfortunate humans that found their way to Transyre when no one was the wiser and proceeded to take over his life where he'd left off. Pye himself humors both, and will probably go along with whatever the other person suggests.

{mild tl;dr ahead}

The truth of the matter is that Pye was born in the mortal realm as a result of a chance encounter between two dopplegangers traversing it. As it typically falls to the 'male' of the union to raise the child alone, Pye's paternal figure decided he unfortunately wasn't quite ready for this responsibility and abandoned the child on the first doorstep he came across. The baby, appearing to be a typical human child to the average passerby, was discovered shortly after by a homeless man who had once thought leaving children in baskets at random houses was reserved for storybooks. Although he hardly had the means to care for the slightly eerie yellow-eyed child either, the babe's presence certainly increased the number of handouts he was able to get, so he held off on turning the newly dubbed "Magpie" over to the authorities for a while... a really long while. Some of Pye's earliest memories are of panhandling and running barefoot along the train tracks in some vain hope to catch up to their ride to the next state. It wasn't exactly an easy life and it meant being home schooled by a drug addict and the staff at a number of soup kitchens in between shifts, but at least his education allowed him to read the signs well enough and do math most would consider too advanced for a third grader.

It wasn't until he turned 12 that the true nature of his being became clear. In an act of desperation when the police had cornered him and his foster father for possession of illegal substances, the child foolishly transmogrified himself into a carbon copy of the older man before a number of very shocked police officers. The confusion was enough to buy them both some time to escape for a bit, but due to being unable to change back, Pye was eventually caught and shipped off to Guantanamo Bay in a feeble attempt to keep the anomaly they'd just witnessed contained in preparation for study. Pye never saw his foster father again.

Prison is hardly the place to keep a child who just discovered himself able to completely change his appearance, however - coming to collect him for experimentation proved impossible, as the moment he conceptualized his own abilities, Pye had changed into himself into at least eight other prisoners, two guardsmen, three lunch ladies, two janitors and a potted plant in one of the offices. In spite of the dissent he'd caused, it was free food, another unconventional education, and a mostly dry place to sleep... so Pye stayed in prison voluntarily for a good five years to hone his abilities. Eventually, he grew tired of being locked up all the time, changed himself into a sparrow outside of his window and left the moment he figured out how to fly, leaving behind the paranoia that he was still somewhere in their midst.

The years that followed were largely spent in kitchens, which had since become comfortable territory for him, posing as a variety of different people to acquire a few free meals out of the place before moving onto the next location. He stopped keeping track of time for a while, and had, at the time, been posing as the son of a mom n pop-owned diner on the outskirts of the woods before he'd entered them. Hearing rumors of some manner of legendary ingredient to be found in its depths, Pye wandered in, and, like most others who enter, became trapped there.

Quickly accustoming himself to his new living arrangement, he doesn't seem particularly troubled by the current state of events... even if he isn't quite sure what's going to happen if the forest-whatsits stage a coup of the tiny town he's found himself in or whatever.

MISC. INFORMATION:

LIKES:
❤ - Nature - Just being outside is usually enough to lift his mood, even if it's for but a fleeting moment. That isn't to say he loves every aspect - snow, for instance, can go fuck a shovel- but just lying around and watching the clouds go by on a nice, hot sunny day is completely his ideal.
+ Cooking - it's more of a hobby than a great passion of his, but there's something comfortable about being in the kitchen nevertheless.
+ Birds
+ Being in a new place for the first time
+ Naps
+ Hot weather - the warmer, the better.

DISLIKES:
☠ (Self) Pity - as far as he's concerned, thinking of your experiences as only being negative and choosing to brood on them or on behalf of another is unproductive and bland. He prefers to think of harsh circumstances as being character building exercise instead.
- Pre-packaged food - not that he isn't accustomed to it, but once you have the same thing made with fresher ingredients, you never really want to go back.
- Sticking out in a crowd
- Overly salty foods (fried stuff tends to make him feel ill)
- Mind-altering substances - drugs and alcohol tend to lure him out of a stabilized state of transformation, which can get... troublesome.
- Being accused of being fake - he prefers "new and improved".

EXTRA: (Optional)

  • He can make pretty decent pruno if the situation calls for it, but due to the disgusting stench and even more foul taste, he generally wouldn't.
  • Will respond to Magpie, although you'll get an annoyed look if you call him that... even if he is impersonating the bird itself.
  • Although an excellent cook, he's... really, really bad at baking. It's too precise for his liking.

RELATIONSHIPS: haha no friends pye

ROLEPLAY INFORMATION:

CHATROOM AVAILABILITY: Probably reasonably often because i'm a degenerate slacker, but if you're looking to summon me up from hell, IM would be a better bet.

IM AVAILABILITY: ok honestly i squat on skype literally all day so if you need me that's probably where you'll find me

SKYPE NAME: Note me for this, please!

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:

Script;

* ... You know... you're lucky I like you.
He flips the empty glass into the air with his left hand, catching it in his right. A soft smile plays on the corners of his lips.
* Fresh food isn't exactly on the menu, I'll have you know.

---
Paragraph;

Cleanliness wasn't something Pye expected in his kitchen most days.

Giant roaches? Yes. Rats? Without a doubt. The ghosts of said rats and roaches? Why not?

Soap? Fuck no. He rubbed the back of a neck he presently considered his, wrinkling his nose at the fresh citrus scent that now graced his floors.

"... Who put us on par with proper health and safety standards?"

It was an accusation born of confusion instead of malice as he ran a finger over the polished counter tops, staring at his index finger like he'd just rediscovered religion when he turned it back up clean. In all the time he'd been here, that had never happened. Perhaps it would have if he'd actually bothered to CLEAN THE KITCHEN once and a while, but, perhaps accustomed to other employees going through those motions for him, he couldn't have claimed to know how... nor did he have the motivation to go through with it to begin with, anyway. Eventually, he'd just shook his head in disbelief at the sight before him, turning back towards the door. This was too much.

At least someone hadn't come out of the pantry to inform him that he now had actual, bonafide food to work with. Then he'd really be disappointed whenever he presumably woke up from what had to be a dream.
